Before
starting to use the AcuDOME kit, ensure you have the
following items:
1)
A blunt craft knife or the AcuDome Repair Tool #AD-55,
for repairs to AcuDOMED decals.
2)
A can of repositional spray mount adhesive, for
spraying onto the glass working surface to keep
the decals flat while applying the AcuDOME.
3)
Protective gloves and clothing should be worn at
all times when working with the AcuDOME Resin System.
Thin surgical type gloves are recommended.
4)
Prepare adequate weeded out decals, prior to application.
A 50 ml AcuDOME cartridge will adequately dome coat
55-65 1"X1" (25mm X 25mm) decals.
5)
Affix the decals to a suitable surface prior to
application. Semi-toughened glass, coated with repositional
photo mount spray adhesive is an ideal working surface.
Rubber stand-offs in each corner, allows the glass
to be stacked.
Preparing
the Resin
6)
Unpack one AcuDOME 50 ml cartridge.
7)
Unpack one AcuDOME mixer.
8)
Remove the cartridge cap by twisting through 90º
and pulling to separate.
9)
Next remove the rubber seal under the cartridge
cap by pulling off slowly to avoid any spillage.
10)
Take the mixer and cartridge and prepare to attach
together
11)
Affix the mixer to the cartridge by twisting the
mixer into the grooves on the cartridge by 90º
clockwise.
12)
Prepare the application gun. Ensure the plunger
is fully retracted.
13)
Open the clip on the front of the application gun.
14)
Slide the completed cartridge through the front
clip ensuring the cartridge is orientated correctly.
15)
Close the retaining clip by pulling the cartridge
up and wait for the click to signal it is secure.
Remember to pull the plunger all the way back before
attempting to attach the cartridge.
16)
Invert the cartridge for 30-50 seconds to allow
bubbles to rise to the top of the cartridge where
the mixer is attached. Keep the cartridge pointing
upward while pulling the trigger. You should see
an accumulation of air bubbles within the mixer.
Applying
the Resin
17)
Pull the trigger on the application gun in order
to purge about 3ml-5ml of the resin to ensure the
resin system is correctly mixed. Ensure no bubbles
are visible in the mixer or cartridge prior to applying
the AcuDOME Resin to the decal or substrate.
18)
Apply resin to the decal by pulling the trigger
at a constant SLOW comfortable rate. A good practice
is to apply slightly less than is anticipated. The
AcuDOME will flow to the edges of the decal by itself.
19)
After 10-15 minutes the decal should be fully covered.
If it is not, consider applying additional AcuDOME
Resin. Or push the AcuDOME into areas that are not
covered using the repair tool. Use your timer to
alert you to do this.
20)
Occasionally the resin needs encouragement to fill
the decal.
21)
If the resin has not covered the decal fully within
5-10 minutes you can use the repair tool to drag
a small amount of resin into the corners and other
places the resin has not reached.
22)
After leaving the decal for about 5 minutes no more
work should need to be done.
Reworking
and Repairing
23)
After leaving the decal for about 10 minutes the
bubble removing heat gun may be needed to release
any air bubbles that may remain within the resin.
24)
If there are any bubbles in the resin the flame
gun should be used. Position the flame gun about
3-6 inches away from the surface of the resin and
momentarily pull the trigger. This blast of heat
should remove any air bubbles. Be careful NOT to
apply too much heat as this will gel the AcuDOME
surface too quickly.
25)
If the resin has run over the edges of the decal,
a couple of minutes should be waited before being
repaired in order to let the resin settle.
26)
Once the resin has settled use your craft knife
or AcuDOME repair tool to run down the overflowed
edge of the decal. This should clean up the spillage.
27)
The finished decal should be left for about 12-18
hours before being used.
