"Promoting Soundness through Innovation"

Equitrax Semi-Rigid Application

Equitrax™ can be used with or without the use of a shoe, and is the ideal fix for several applications including; quartercracks, hoof wall separation, filling old abscesses, hoof wall reconstruction, laminitis, support, sand cracks, heel cracks, toe cracks, and extensions.

Equitrax should only be applied by licensed veterinarians and farriers.

It is recommended that you wear latex gloves anytime you are dispensing Equitrax™.

1) Prepare the hoof by trimming and removing any debris or weak horn.

2) Clean the area to be treated with denatured alcohol and allow it to dry. Do not apply Equitrax™ to any area of the foot that is bleeding or infected.

3) If a shoe is being applied, cover the area of the shoe that will come in contact with Equitrax™ using plastic wrap. This prevents Equitrax™ from bonding with the shoe and prevents the patch from being removed with the shoe at the time of the next shoeing.

4) Place Equitrax Semi-Rigid™ in the dispensing gun. It is important to dispense a small amount into a cup to be sure that both components are being dispensed evenly.

5) If using a mixing tip, use Equitrax™ to fill the area to be treated. (If you are not using a mixing tip, dispense Equitrax™ into a container, and stir for 1 minute making sure both components are evenly mixed. Apply Equitrax™ to the foot using a spatula or tongue depressor.)

6) Cover the treated area with plastic wrap and shape Equitrax™ by hand, with a roller or tongue depressor, to its desired shape. (The use of plastic wrap removes oxygen and speeds up the curing process.) Equitrax™ has an open time of approximately 2-3 minutes for moulding and shaping.

7) Allow Equitrax™ to cure for 12-17 minutes (depending on temperature and humidity).

8) Remove plastic wrap and perform any modifications by filing and trimming Equitrax™ (at this point it is safe to drive nails into Equitrax™).

9) If working in temperatures under 65 a heat gun or hair dryer may be used to speed up the curing process.

Gluing on Shoes

1) Trim and balance the foot.

2) Clean the foot with denatured alcohol and remove all debris.

3) Allow the foot to dry. You can dry the foot with a heat gun or hair dryer to speed up this process.

4) Drill a ¼" hole in each heel, and on the toe of the shoe using a ¼" drill bit. (Note: It is recommended that you use a shoe with side clips when gluing on shoes. This ensures proper placement of the shoe.)

5) Remove all oxidized metal from the foot surface of the shoe with a grinder or file.

6) Place Equitrax Semi-Rigid™ in the dispensing gun. It is important to dispense a small amount into a cup to be sure that both components are being dispensed evenly.

7) When the foot is dry and clean of debris, apply 2-3 beads of Equitrax™ to the outside ½" of the ground surface of the foot, or on the surface of the shoe. Do not wait until Equitrax™ begins to exotherm as you may lose bonding strength during this time. (Note: if you are not using a mixing tip, mix Equitrax™ in a container for 1 minute or until you have a thorough mixture. Apply 3/8" of Equitrax™ to the shoe or the foot.)

8) Apply the shoe to the foot and hold in place for 3-5 minutes. Add Equitrax™ to the heels of the shoe, covering any exposed shoe at the heel. The heel of the shoe should be blended to the foot with Equitrax™. (Note: Since Equitrax™ applied in small applications remains somewhat flexible, heel expansion is not restricted by covering the heels, it simply allows for a better bond since shoes are frequently pulled from the heels.)

9) Wrap the foot with plastic wrap and suspend the leg for approximately 5-7 minutes, or until the shoe is set.

10) Place the horse's hoof on the ground, and pick up the opposite foot and set your clips using a small driving hammer.

*If any residue remains after Equitrax™ is cured you can wipe it off with an alcohol swab.

*Temperature and humidity may effect cure time.

Flextrax™ Digital Support

1) Trim and balance the foot.

2) Clean the sole surface with denatured alcohol, paying close attention to the frog area, and allow to dry.

3) Shape the shoe, and concave (safe) the inside edge of the shoe. (Note: Because of Flextrax's™ superior bonding strength, it is not necessary to use any type of mesh.

4) Nail on shoe and clinch.

5) With the foot elevated, apply Flextrax™ to the sole of the foot until you have the desired thickness.

6) Flextrax™ will cure in 30-40 seconds. If Flextrax™ is still tacky, cover with plastic wrap or baby powder, and put the foot down. (This prevents Flextrax™ from bonding with the floor.)

*Flextrax™ may also be used under a pad.

*Flextrax™ may also be used in smaller applications to protect the sole from trauma, and prevent abscessing. By applying ¼" of Flextrax to the sole of the foot you can prevent harmful bacteria from invading the frog, and prevent thrush.

Equitrax Sound Shot

1) Clean sole surface and frog area with a wire brush until all debris is removed (Paying close attention to the infected area).

2)Hold sound shot 4-5 inches from the foot and apply to the white line and frog.

3) For severe cases apply 4-5 times per week.

*Sound shot can be used as a maintenance tool to prevent thrush and hoofwall separation by following steps 1 and 2, at least twice a week.
